Sondra J. Duerkop, APNP, FNP-BC
Nurse Practitioner – Functional & Integrative Medicine
With over 28 years of nursing experience and 7 years as a board-certified Nurse Practitioner, Sondra Duerkop brings a wealth of clinical knowledge, precision, and heart to her work at Optima Medical. She specializes in Hormone Therapy, Occupational Health, Joint Injections, and Weight Management—with a strong focus on helping patients achieve optimal function and vitality.
Sondra is known for her use of advanced therapies including bioidentical hormone replacement, human tissue and PRP therapies, Prolozone, hyaluronic acid injections, and evidence-based weight loss protocols using both GLP-1 medications and natural metabolic reset strategies.
Driven by a deep frustration with the lack of personalized care in conventional medicine, Sondra pursued a path that allows her to remove barriers and deliver truly individualized treatment. Her greatest reward? Helping patients regain energy, balance, and a higher quality of life.
Sondra earned her RN degree from Winona State University and completed her Nurse Practitioner training at the University of Cincinnati. She blends her clinical expertise with genuine compassion and a commitment to uncovering root causes—so her patients feel seen, supported, and empowered on their healing journey.
Outside the clinic, Sondra embraces life with energy and joy. She enjoys traveling to warm destinations, boating, camping, snow and water skiing, walking her dogs, playing board games, and running. Whether she’s outdoors or with loved ones, she brings the same vitality to life that she helps her patients reclaim.
Janet Mikesell-Bauer, RN
Registered Nurse – Bioidentical Hormone Therapy & Integrative Medical Care
Janet Mikesell-Bauer brings both professional and personal passion to her role at Optima Medical. A Registered Nurse since 1993, Janet returned to the field in 2020 after raising her four children and supporting her husband’s thriving chiropractic and functional medicine practice for over two decades. Today, she specializes in bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, medical injections, and personalized integrative care.
Trained through Evexipel in 2020, Janet is committed to helping patients address the root causes of their symptoms through individualized care plans that align with their lab results, goals, and whole-body health. Her deep belief in the body’s ability to heal—paired with her firsthand experience of the life-changing effects of hormone therapy—fuels her mission to help others feel their best.
One of her most impactful experiences was witnessing her husband’s transformation after receiving testosterone pellets. The shift in his energy, drive, and presence not only renewed his health, but revitalized their marriage, family life, and relationships. That breakthrough inspired Janet to bring this powerful therapy to patients who may have lost hope after exhausting traditional medical options.
Janet loves the collaborative environment at Optima, where the medical and chiropractic teams work closely together to support every patient holistically. For her, the most rewarding part of her work is helping people regain the energy and vitality they need to live life fully.
Outside the clinic, Janet enjoys traveling (and planning her next trip!), reading, and hosting gatherings at her home or cabin. Her greatest joy is spending time with her husband of 32 years, their four grown children, and their beloved dog, Winston.
Peggy Staehling
Care Coordinator
With over 21 years at Optima, Peggy Staehling is the warm and welcoming face who helps keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes—and often, right at the front desk. Known for her nurturing spirit and deep care for others, Peggy brings a “mom’s touch” to her work, making every patient feel like part of the family.
Her passion for helping people stems from her own healing journey. After undergoing back surgery at just 28 years old, Peggy found strength and support through the care she received at Optima. That personal experience fuels her commitment to ensuring every patient feels seen, supported, and well cared for.
Peggy treasures the close connections she’s built with patients over the years—many of whom have become like extended family. She’s a true team player who loves the variety in her work, the energy of the office, and the deep bond she shares with her Optima family.
Outside of work, Peggy enjoys golfing, taking long walks, and cozy movie nights with a glass of wine and a fluffy blanket. Her greatest joy of all? Being a brand-new grandma (aka “Mimi”) and soaking up every moment with her growing family.
